The last Arctic wolf pup to be born in South Lakes Safari Zoo
The last Arctic wolf pup to be born at South Lakes Safari Zoo has been captured in some adorable snaps before the pack left recently for its new home.
The Dalton Wolf pack have just been moved to a new home in the UK with the new whereabouts yet to be announced.
Photographer Chris Haggan managed to get some amazing snaps of the last pup born at the Cumbria enclosure before the move.
Arctic wolves are usually white and are smaller than grey wolves, however the pup has a slightly different ‘browny pink’ appearance.
Chris said: “They are just Arctic wolves, the pink just comes from the soil. They have moved on to a new, as yet unnamed zoo, a few days ago though.
“I believe its part of the zoo’s plan to redevelop that area of the zoo ever since they took over, but obviously everything takes time and money.
“It will be good to see how the area is redeveloped and what animals will occupy it.”
In reply to the photos of the pup posted on Facebook, a zookeeper from the Safari Zoo said: “We have had some photos and videos, they seem to be settling in well which is great to see.”
Animal lovers and adopters were encouraged to come and say their goodbyes to the Arctic wolf pack at Cumbria’s Safari Zoo.
Speaking on its Facebook page during the original announcement, a spokesperson for Safari Zoo said: “We have made no secret that the wolf enclosure is one of the historical enclosures which we have been most unhappy with since taking over in 2017, however, homing an already established pack of wolves to enable works to take place has proven difficult.
“Luckily, the offer of a home came from a zoo which was looking to add a new and exciting development, and our lovely pack fit the bill paw-fectly. This move will enable some much-needed recovery of their area.”
