Donald Sutherland dead at 88: iconic actor starred in “MASH,” “Ordinary People,” “Hunger Games”
Donald Sutherland, the acclaimed actor known for his extensive five-decade career, has passed away at 88. Born on July 17, 1935, in New Brunswick, Canada, he overcame serious childhood illnesses before pursuing acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Sutherland gained fame with roles in films like The Dirty Dozen and MASH, where he originated the iconic character Hawkeye Pierce. He starred in Oscar-winning films such as Klute and Ordinary People, and appeared in the popular Hunger Games series as President Coriolanus Snow.
Despite never receiving an Oscar nomination, he was honored with an Academy Honorary Award in 2017 and had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
