Woman saved baby elephant’s life, now she follows her everywhere
Sometimes a small act of kindness means the whole world for a helpless creature. It is the case of this adorable baby elephant. Moyo was just a few days old when got lost of her herd. Given her situation, the chances of survival were extremely low. Yet, Moyo what means ‘of the heart’ has beaten the odds, thanks to this kind woman
Alone, hungry and scared, a pack of hyenas approached the little elephant. Unfortunately in her desperate attempt to save her life, she jumped into a flooded river. Therefore, her fate seemed to be sealed. But just in time, a group of rangers came out of nowhere and took her out of the water.
From that point on Moyo’s life has dramatically changed. She was taken to Wild Is Life sanctuary in Harare, Zimbabwe and here Roxy Danckwerts, the founder, became her adopting mom.
Now, two years after the moment when the little one was saved from certain death, things look completely different for her. And her adopting mom, too! Moyo weighs around 150 pounds and she follows Roxy everywhere. “She knows my voice, my smell and somehow knows where I am at all times,” the woman said. “How, I have no idea!”
The duo have quickly formed an incredible bond based on mutual love and respect. And now they are inseparable! Though, sometimes Moyo’s energy is turning the house upside down!
“She is one of those animals with whom I have formed an extraordinary bond of friendship, trust and love,” Roxy said. “Letting go will be hard. However, I am so determined and so sure of this road that I have chosen. I want the best for the elephant children, and that best is freedom to roam and to make their own choices.”
