The respected broadcaster, 67, shared on social media that he has been diagnosed with Stage IV prostate cancer, calling it “personal news” he had hoped he’d never have to share. He praised his exceptional medical team for their expert and compassionate care and said he’s responding positively to treatment.

Dermot wrote, “I’m fortunate to have an outstanding team looking after me. I’m feeling well, strengthened by the love of my wife, family, and friends.” He also used the announcement to urge all men over 50—or in high-risk groups—to get tested and to support campaigns for routine NHS prostate screenings.

In a show of defiance, Dermot revealed he’s aiming to take part in a charity bike ride in Glasgow this September with Sir Chris Hoy, raising funds for prostate cancer awareness.

Messages of support have poured in from former colleagues and the public. Fellow presenter Sophie Blake, also battling Stage IV cancer, said she’s been ticking off her “living list” and encouraged Dermot to do the same. BBC’s Faisal Islam and Sky’s Thomas Newton also expressed admiration for his courage and positivity.

Despite the diagnosis, Dermot’s spirit remains unshaken—fighting not just for himself, but to make a difference for others.
