Homemade Pandoro
Pandoro is an Italian classic that delights with its light texture and unmistakable aroma. But did you know that you can prepare this delicacy at home quickly and easily?
Why make pandoro at home?
Fresh and tasty: Nothing compares to the flavor of a freshly baked pandoro.
Customized: You can add candied fruits, chocolate chips or spices for a special touch.
More economical: Making it at home is cheaper than buying it ready-made.
Ingredients:
500g wheat flour
150g sugar
100g unsalted butter, at room temperature
4 large eggs
150ml warm milk
10g dry yeast
1 pinch of salt
Zest of 1 orange
Icing sugar for sprinkling
Preparation method:
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix the warm milk with the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, or until it starts to foam.
Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift the flour and salt.
Cream the butter and sugar: Using a mixer, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Bringing it all together: Alternate adding the dry and wet ingredients to the dough, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Add the orange zest and mix gently.
Kneading the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Rising: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Shaping the pandoro: Transfer the dough to a greased and floured pandoro mold. Cover again with plastic wrap and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
Baking: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bake the pandoro for about 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
Finishing: Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
Tips:
Mold: If you don’t have a pandoro mold, use a greased and floured loaf pan.
Candied fruit: Add candied fruit to the dough for a special touch.
Spices: Try adding other spices like cinnamon, cardamom or nutmeg.
Extra tip: For an even tastier pandoro, add a pinch of vanilla essence to the dough.
