The guy who murdered her seven-year-old daughter was on trial when a mother shot and killed him. As Klaus Grabowski was. On trial for the 1980 murder of seven-year-old Anna Bachmeier, Marianne Bachmeier took matters into her own hands by shooting her daughter’s murderer to death, according to the Sun.
The event started when the town was shocked by the discovery of Anna Bachmeier’s body on May 5, 1980. Later, Klaus Grabowski confessed to the horrible crime and was put on trial. After his fiancée informed the police, Grabowski confessed to killing the little girl, which resulted in his incarceration.
Additionally, there were rumours of potential sexual assault, which Grabowski denied. However, there were serious worries about his previous criminal record for child molestation. German-born Marianne Bachmeier took strong action after realising that jail alone was insufficient retribution for her daughter’s murderer.
Bachmeier brought a.22-caliber Beretta handgun into the courtroom on March 4, 1981, during Grabowski’s trial, and fired eight rounds, six of which hit Grabowski.
According to witnesses, Bachmeier spoke about wanting to murder Grabowski and called him a “pig.” Grabowski was killed by the act, and Bachmeier was put on trial for his murder.
Known as Germany’s “Revenge Mother,” Bachmeier provoked intense discussion over whether her acts were justified. Some questioned the morality and legality of her vigilantism, while others sympathised with her desire for vengeance. During court proceedings, it was discussed whether Bachmeier’s conduct qualified as murder or planned manslaughter.
She was found guilty of premeditated manslaughter in 1983 and given a six-year jail sentence, although she was freed after serving barely half of that time.
Bachmeier received support from parents who understood her deep sadness and desire for justice, even if her acts were illegal. In 2022, a replica of the courtroom shooting appeared on YouTube, sparking new conversations about her contentious act and rekindling interest in her narrative.
One reader expressed admiration for Bachmeier’s behaviour, saying: “You have to admire the police for gently lowering her arm without tackling her or anything. Everyone in the room was clearly in agreement with her.
