Notes:
Bread Options: Feel free to use a different type of bread for the patty melts if you prefer. Sourdough, wheat, or white bread can be good alternatives to marble rye.
Ground Turkey Substitute: Substitute ground turkey for the ground beef if you prefer a leaner meat option or want to vary the flavor.
Make-Ahead Secret Sauce: Prepare the secret sauce ahead of time and refrigerate it for convenient use. Allowing the flavors to meld overnight can enhance the sauce’s taste.
Customizing the Secret Sauce: Adjust the proportions of mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, and hot sauce in the secret sauce to suit your personal taste preferences.
Side Dish Suggestions: Serve these patty melts with side dishes like French fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw, pickles, potato salad, or a green salad to complement the flavors.
Cheese Options: Experiment with different cheese varieties such as American, provolone, or pepper jack to personalize the patty melts.
Caramelizing Onions: To caramelize the onions, cook them slowly in butter over medium-low heat until they turn soft and golden brown, enhancing their natural sweetness.
Grilling Option: Cook the ground beef patties on a grill instead of a skillet for a smoky flavor. Adjust grilling time based on desired doneness.
Adjusting Spiciness: Customize the spiciness of the secret sauce by altering the amount of hot sauce used, depending on your heat preference.
Golden Brown Perfection: Achieve perfectly golden brown patty melts by cooking them on both sides until the bread is crisp and the cheese is melted. Adjust cooking time to ensure even browning.
