Barbra Streisand claims she ‘can’t live in this country’ if Donald Trump wins the 2024 presidential election
After coldly serenading former President Donald Trump in her song “Don’t Lie to Me,” Barbra Streisand criticises the “tyrant,” threatening to leave the United States if the Republican front-runner for 2024 is re-elected. Calling the four-times-indicted Trump “so stupid,” and “ill-informed,” the musician and actor recently told Stephen Colbert, “I can’t live in this country if he becomes president.”
However, this is not the first time she has made such a promise, nor is she the first celebrity who has broken their vows to move to Canada, Europe, or even Jupiter since Trump’s victory in 2016.
Barbra Streisand, 81, didn’t mean to be a Funny Girl when she replied, “Yes, Mr. Trump, let’s make America great again.” But first, let’s be clear: America was great before you were elected.
The long-time Democratic supporter and fundraiser is not hesitant in expressing her dislike for the former president, calling him “the Liar in Chief, the Groper in Chief.” In 2018, the EGOT (she has an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) released her 36th album, “Walls,” which was inspired by the reality show star who became President of the United States.
Speaking to the Associated Press about the song, she said, “I wanted to talk about the things that were making me feel so sad, heartbroken.” Streisand adds, “I just can’t tolerate what’s going on. He is attacking our democracy, institutions, and founders, and I believe we are fighting back.”We’re fighting for the soul of America.
” The Grammy-nominated record, a musical tribute to Trump’s tyranny, features songs like “Don’t Lie to Me,” which Streisand says was inspired by the news that made her “sick, listening to lies, listening to things that are such craziness.”
“I can’t stand being lied to, and I don’t think the country should be lied to either.” She continues with a joke: “And I just couldn’t comprehend how he could tell all these lies with absolutely no guilt (clearly he’s not Jewish.)”
In her 2023 memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” Streisand discusses why she feels driven to be politically involved and the tension between politicians and artists.
“Why does it make so many people angry when artists speak out?” Babs asks. “Artists, Streisand stated, might serve as ‘a country’s conscience.’ Their work reflects the times and sometimes challenges us to notice what others would rather overlook. They can speak up for the voiceless when no one else would.” She goes on: “That’s why art is the enemy of tyrants and dictators.”
Unfortunately, her forceful voice did not persuade voters.
Prior to the 2016 elections, the Prince of Tides star told the Australian version of 60 Minutes, “He has no facts.” I don’t know, and I can’t believe it. I’m either going to your nation [Australia], if you let me in, or Canada.”
However, Streisand was not the only A-list star who stated that if Trump became president, they would leave the United States.
After “four years in a dark hole,” the star of 1983’s Yentl told People of President Joe Biden, “the country is certainly headed in the right direction.” The 2021 interview begins, “I adore Biden. I admire his compassion, honesty, integrity, and appreciation of reality over fantasy.”
“Since 2016, we have been sucked into Trump’s swamp. “He has demolished our global standing with his laughable boasts and breathtaking ignorance,” she writes in an essay for Variety.
Streisand is now expressing her fears about the approaching elections, citing Trump as the clear Republican frontrunner. On an episode of The Late Show, the iconic singer and actor told host Stephen Colbert that she can not endure living in a country led by the guy she previously described as “so stupid” and “so ill-informed.”
“I can’t live in this country if he becomes president,” Streisand stated, adding that if she has relocate, she will most likely go to England since “I like England.”
“Trump is a man who has never accepted responsibility for his actions, instead blaming others when he is at fault. Even impeachment hasn’t humbled him since, owing to his Republican allies, he has dodged accountability once more,” she says. “We need a new America without pollution, obscenity, insults, or vengeance. We need to restore the dignity of truth…”And only then will America be great again.”
If Streisand returns to Canada as a new potential home, she will need to act quickly because Republicans are also asking for the construction of a wall along Canada’s border.
