La Salle University’s athletics department confirmed the news, leaving the basketball world mourning yet again.
Joe Bryant, affectionately known as “Jellybean,” was not only a former professional basketball player but also a beloved member of the basketball community. He hailed from Philadelphia, where he played college basketball for La Salle University from 1973 to 1975. It was there that he showcased his talent and passion for the game.
In the 1975 NBA draft, Joe Bryant was selected as the 14th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. He went on to play for several teams during his career, including the Philadelphia 76ers, the San Diego Clippers, and the Houston Rockets. Joe Bryant’s skills extended beyond the NBA, as he also played professional basketball in Europe, particularly in Italy. After retiring from playing, Joe Bryant returned to La Salle University as a member of the coaching staff from 1993 to 1996.
