Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes

Thanksgiving dinner is getting closer and closer. I mean, shoot, we are already in the second week of school. Can you believe that!

Each year, although I’m highly traditional and you’ll always find traditional dishes on my holiday table, I try and look for new recipe ideas. I love serving my family flavorful dishes over the holidays.

One thing I always make is sweet potatoes. However, the casserole that I whip up is very time consuming to make. Between the turkey, stuffing, and scalloped potatoes, I don’t always have time to mess with other dishes.

So, when I stumbled across this easy candied sweet potato recipe I was quite pleased. It really doesn’t get easier than this, folks.

To Make this Recipe You’Il Need the following ingredients:

  • White sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Salt
  • Butter
  • Sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 6 sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced

Instructions:

    • In a small bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together.
    • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; add sweet potatoes, and stir to coat.

    • They should be tender, but a little hard around the edges.
    • Stir in vanilla, and serve.
