Bobby Brown opened up about a recurring theme in his dreams, his beloved late children. In an emotional interview with PEOPLE, the legendary singer promotes his new A & E documentary and grieves the loss of his children, both of which he lost to drug ab/se.

“I always see them at beaches or in fields,” Bobby tells PEOPLE. Both of his children passed away in their 20s. Bobbi Kristina died at age 22 in 2015, while Bobby Jr. died at 27 in 2020.

They’re running away, but they’re laughing. And they’re always together. I didn’t have many dreams about Bobbi Kris before Bobby Jr. died. But then all of a sudden — floods of dreams.”
His A&E docu-series Biography: Bobby Brown premieres May 30 and overlooks the superstar’s tumultuous relationship with the late Whitney Houston, overcoming drug addictions, and the most brutal battle any parent must tackle, the death of his children.

On January 31, 2015, Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive in her bathtub at her home in Georgia, similar to how her mother was found in 2011 in her Beverly Hills hotel bathtub. They found a mix of drugs in her system. After months in a coma, Bobbi Kristina passed away in July.

With a mix of alcohol, cocaine, and fentanyl, Bobby Brown’s son, Bobby Brown Jr., was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment on November 18, 2020.

No family, no father should have to go through this,” says Brown, with the help of his wife, Alicia Etheredge. He continues, “I’ve cried, but not how I want to. I really want to just scream to the top of my lungs and cry, but it’s just not there.

Brown believes God has his children when he has the dreams of his two children together. “That’s enough for a father to feel like God has them.”

The New Edition member is survived by his remaining children, Landon and LaPrincia, and the three youngest with his current wife, Cassius, Bodhi, and Hendrix.
