Ex-Police Officer Convicted of Murder, Derek Chauvin, Stabbed In Arizona Prison

Derek Chauvin has reportedly been stabbed by another inmate.

According to reports by the Associated Press, the former Minneapolis police officer who has been convicted of murdering George Floyd was allegedly stabbed by another inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona. The November 24th attack left Chauvin seriously injured.

A source with knowledge of the attack told the AP that the medium-security prison “has been plagued by security lapses and staffing shortages.” Specific details regarding the attack are not known to the public at this time.

However, the AP reports that life-saving measures were performed on the victim of the attack. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

Chauvin was reported transported to the Arizona prison in August 2022 after previously being held at a maximum security prison in Minnesota. Chauvin is simultaneously serving a 21-year federal sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights and a 22-and-a-half-year state sentence for second-degree murder.

While an inmate at the Minnesota prison, Chauvin was kept in solitary confinement. His lawyer worried about him being in general population believing he would be a popular target.

This report is developing.
