Dean McDermott Finally Explains Why He Announced His Separation From Tori Spelling, Then Deleted It
Dean McDermott is speaking out for the first time since accidentally telling the world he split from his wife Tori Spelling.
While speaking with the Daily Mail, McDermott revealed that he and Spelling had been dealing with relationship problems for some time. However, claims got worse when they stopped sharing a bed.
McDermott claims Spelling eventually brought literal animals into the bed. He says they’ve began sharing their bed with a pig and multiple dogs and a chicken lived in their shared bathroom.
“We know dogs have accidents, and our particular dogs were having a lot. And I just couldn’t deal with that anymore,” he recalled. “So, I created a healthy boundary for myself and I said, ‘I can’t do this. I can’t live and sleep in this kind of condition.’ I drew that boundary for myself and moved to another room and things just progressed from there. There were no efforts to sort of remedy the problem to get back into the room.”
McDermott continued saying that as their marriage problems got worse so did his dependency on substances like alcohol. But while he struggled, McDermott says Spelling’s focus was on their five children.
“I just isolated more and more and more and she isolated with the kids. We were roommates. Rarely, rarely, rarely did we eat together. We’d sit down and have a family meal but it was always disjointed,” he explained. “It made me feel worse because I knew I was a big part of [the problem] and I was at a place where I felt there was nothing I could do about it.”
“I’ve never been so lonely in the same house with six other people, never been so lonely in my life. I didn’t know how to get out of the situation I was in. I was hurting. I was heartbroken. I was depressed. I hated myself. I didn’t want to live.”
Then came the mistake that ended it all.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, on June 17, Dean McDermott took to Instagram to announce his separation from Tori Spelling. However, just mere minutes later, McDermott deleted the post.
“It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own,” he wrote, at the time, alongside photographs of himself and Spelling and their kids.
“We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time. We ask that you all respect our privacy as we take this time to surround our family with love and work our way through this. Thank you all for your support and kindness.”
As McDermott told the Daily Mail, “My worst memory with Tori is that last fight when I was drunk and angry. It was the night that I raged against her and the children and I saw the light, the final flicker of the flame go out in her eyes.”
Tori was “totally caught off guard” by the post and their children were left “traumatized.”
As for why he shared the announcement of their separation and then deleted it, McDermott explained, “I posted that because I was at the end of my rope. I didn’t know what to do. I had burned everything down yet again.”
That same day he shared the post, McDermott said he “took six or seven Ambien in the hopes that I would not wake up.” McDermott says he now thanks God he did walk up. “I would’ve ruined so many lives if I had died.”
McDermott says he’s now clean and happier than ever. Tori has yet to share her side of the story.
