Introduction
An old-fashioned Southern classic, Buttermilk Pie is a delectable custard-like dish that will convert even buttermilk sceptics. Make this simple pie for the holidays, parties, or whenever you’ve got a hankering for something sweet. This traditional dessert is sure to be a hit at any gathering, and it goes particularly well with a hot drink like coffee or milk.
You’ll need: 3 eggs
White Sugar, 1.5 Cups
1/4 cup softened cream cheese
1 cup self-rising flour 3 tbsp.
1/4 liter buttermilk
1/4 cup water 1 tbsp. lemon juice
A Vanilla Extract, One Teaspoon
Nutmeg, freshly grated, 1/8 teaspoon
1 unbaked pie crust, 9 in.
Instructions
Get the oven up to temperature, preferably 350 degrees F (175 C).
Whip the eggs in a bowl until they form soft peaks. Beat in the flour, sugar, and butter until everything is well combined.
Buttermilk, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and freshly grated nutmeg should be combined and stirred in. Fill an unbaked pie crust with the filling.
It will take about 40-60 minutes of baking time for the pie to reach a firm center.
When the pie is done baking, take it out of the oven and let it cool for an hour before cutting into it.
For the remaining baking time, cover the pie with foil if the edges are browning too quickly. Look for a nicely browned top and a slightly jiggly center to determine if the pie is done. The filling will set as it cools. You may also insert a toothpick in the center; if it comes out mostly clean, your pie is ready to be enjoyed.
